Top Tips for Packing for a Golf Holiday in Scotland
A golf holiday in Scotland is a dream come true for many golfers. The stunning landscapes, world-renowned courses, and rich golfing history make it a must-visit destination. With such a variety of courses set against breathtaking backdrops, your Scottish golf experience promises to be unforgettable. To make the most of your trip, packing the right gear is essential. In this blog, we’ll guide you through some top tips for packing so you’re fully prepared for everything Scotland has to offer.
Embrace the Variety of Weather
Scotland is known for its vibrant and ever-changing weather. From sun-drenched fairways to cool, refreshing breezes, you’ll likely experience a little bit of everything during your trip – but that’s part of the charm! To stay comfortable no matter the conditions, we recommend packing a range of layers. Lightweight, moisture-wicking base layers will keep you comfortable in warmer weather, while a warm mid-layer and a windproof jacket will ensure you’re ready if the breeze picks up. And just in case you encounter a light Scottish mist, a compact waterproof jacket will keep you dry without taking up too much space in your golf bag.
Did you know that Scotland enjoys long summer days, allowing you to play golf late into the evening? With over 17 hours of daylight in summer, you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy your round, soaking up the beauty of the Scottish countryside.
Essential Golf Gear
Of course, clothing is just one part of your packing list. Scotland’s courses are famous for their variety, from the coastal links to inland gems, and each offers its own unique challenges. Be sure to pack extra golf balls – the rugged beauty of the links courses often means a stray shot could land in the dunes or thick grasses. But with the right gear, you’ll relish the challenge and take home some great memories.
A sturdy golf bag with ample storage is essential. Choose one with space for your extra gear, like gloves, hand warmers, or sunscreen, as Scottish summer days can be surprisingly sunny! Don’t forget your golf shoes, too – a pair with excellent grip will keep you steady on any terrain, whether it’s a coastal fairway or a parkland course.
Travel-Sized Accessories for Convenience
Packing light can make your journey smoother, especially if you’re planning to explore more of Scotland’s famous sights. Opt for travel-sized versions of your favourite golf accessories, like foldable towels or a compact umbrella. It’s also worth packing some re-sealable plastic bags for wet items, so your gear stays fresh and ready for the next round.
Explore Beyond the Fairways
While your focus might be on golf, Scotland offers so much more beyond the course. From its historic castles to the world-famous whisky distilleries, there’s plenty to explore during your downtime. If you’re planning to take in the scenery, pack comfortable walking shoes and casual clothing for exploring the beautiful Highlands or a stroll along the coastline.
And if you’re visiting from outside the UK, don’t forget a universal power adapter. Many golf resorts and hotels offer charging points for your devices, but having the right adapter means you’ll be able to recharge your phone or camera to capture the stunning views.
Ready for Anything
Scotland’s diverse weather and world-class golf courses make it a destination like no other. With the right gear and a positive mindset, you’ll be ready to embrace the full golfing experience, from sun-soaked fairways to a refreshing coastal breeze. Layer up, pack light, and prepare for one of the most memorable golfing adventures of your life.

What a perfect vacation with 5 beautiful days of golf. Nicola was great. She ensured we were in the Old Course balloting-system and that we were also checked in for the Old Course singles daily lottery. I was fortunate to secure two opportunities to play the Old Course. Nicola went out her way many times, including traveling back to pick me up from another course to ensure I made my Old Course check in time. She also meet up with me on the 18th tee to follow me in while taking pictures of a very memorable experience. ProScotGolf provides exceptional customer service and value. I will be planning my next trip soon.

ProScot organized and carried out a wonderful trip to St Andrews for my group. They provided everything we asked for and more. We stayed at The Saint, a small but very comfortable place with lovely food and a warm local Scottish atmosphere. All arrangements for golf were set up as we asked. Two of our group played the Old Course through the on site queue.
I am particularly grateful for the kind attention from Nicola Scott who facilitated our days. She was diligent in working with our friends looking to get onto the Old Course…she even made an extra round trip to Lundin Links at the last minute so one could make a last minute opportunity to play.
I highly recommend them for a quality golf trip to Scotland.

Absolutely the best! Everyone at ProScot (John, Nicola, Patricia) were exceptionally professional, friendly, and helpful.
The tour they put together for us was incredible. Our accommodations in St Andrews we’re top notch. The golf courses were fabulous. Drivers were always on time!
They made sure we had everything we needed from snacks to drinks and were willing to be flexible in terms of schedule
They setup dinner reservations at amazing restaurants, and were able to provide advice on just about anything in the area.
